Made for metroidvania month 10

Scenario:

A colony ship floats through space searching for an earth-like exoplanet until they discover something interesting to investigate.

You found heaven.  A bright, cloudy place in the middle of no where.
There are angels there welcoming you until they read your mind and find out you worship the wrong God so they turn on you, possessing the machinery in the ship.

controls are also explained in game. the tutorial text changes if you select an alternate control scheme from the options menu

if you want to play with a traditional control scheme, use 'old skool'.  some people couldn't get a hang of holding up/down + attack in order to attack vertically so best stick with the 'new school' control scheme in that case.  left handed version just swaps WASD and arrow keys.

the "old skool" controls:

move/aim: arrows/dpad

jump: Z or A(controller)

attack: X

grapple: shift /right bumper

restart room: R / left trigger

main menu: escape

"new school" controls:

move: arrows/dpad

jump: space or left bumper

attack: WASD or A/B/X/Y (controller)

disable auto-grapple: shift /right bumper

restart room: R / left trigger

main menu: escape

I had to play through this game again after the latest 3.7 update. It was my favorite game from Metroidvania Month 10 & I still love it. I really appreciate the option you added to turn of screen shake. This is a really fun & well-made game & I look forward to seeing your next game!

thanks, i mainly focused on accessibility post jam.  but will be returning to this game (sooner or later) as i have plans for turning it into a full game when im ready

Very cool game. First of all I liked the difficulty very well. It's not unfair but there is definitely a challenge to overcome :)

At next I have to say you had very cool ideas for the rooms and the different enemy types. Also for the graphics. Everything looked very cool. The soundtrack had a nice vibe.

There is only one thing that I didn't liked and that where the controls on keyboard. It was quite difficult to press X for attacking and D for moving. Got a bit tricky.

The only sad thing is that I haven't got any further than the room with those two electric things (I think it's the room on the second gif). I made it up to the platform but couldn't get pass the barrier because there were no enemies to defeat. So I walked back to the room with the boss like enemy but I was also stuck there. Maybe I missed something.

In the end I can say this is a very cool game with cool enemy and room designs, nice graphics, a nice soundtrack and a well chosen difficulty. Maybe not quite a metroidvania? But as I said I sadly haven't played it through so maybe I missed a lot.

Keep it up!

thanks for playing!

the tutorial text should be neater now that you mention it
i wrote arrows to move in the tutorial text which means you can use the left and right arrows
and 'dpad' is for controller
you can move with a/d but i just used those for testing purposes (not intended for playing with)

okay tried recreating that problem
you needed to destroy the electric things for the barrier
but there should be a way to walk back there from the boss room?

Damm thats a neat game, the gameplay flows very well and i also liked the music and graphics :)

idk if that was intentional but this "parkourly" gameplay really gave some Celeste / IWBTG vibes, and it doesnt really feel like a metroidvania thought. I like the difficulty, but some parts are kinda frustrating, especially the first rooms you need to use the grapple.(i bet it would be easier if i used a gamepad, but apparently it doesnt work with my Xbox controller)

btw i also found a bug were i fell out a room after killing all the enemies, and then they didnt wanted to respawn, so i had to reset the game, not sure what happened

thanks for playing

you actually named two of the games inspirations.  about the metroidvania thing, i didn't get to add a mini map so i was worried exploration would be frustrating
you may have noticed that some of the floor-less rooms suddenly have a floor if you walk back into them after clearing them, that way backtracking would be possible but yeah most of the game isn't like that
yeah i know the room with the soft lock, i forgot about it and didn't get to fix it, my bad

again thanks for the feedback!
